Good news: the Aiguille du Midi cable car should resume service from this Thursday 16 March 2023.
Since Friday 10 March 2023, the second section of the Aiguille du Midi cable car has been closed.
The main cause of the closure are the very disrupted weather episodes experienced by the Chamonix Mont-Balnc valley with, in particular, violent winds of more than 100 km/h between Friday 10 and Sunday 12 March 2023. This bad weather did not not allowed the operation of the ski lift.
In addition, the Mont-Blanc company and its teams suffered an incident on one of the two cabins of the second section, battered by the wind, during a change of driver.
Maintenance operation on the installation
A maintenance operation has been taking place on the installation since Monday 13 March, to allow it to be restarted when the wind calms down in the high mountains.
The manufacturer even went on site to carry out some checks. Subject to final checks and favorable weather conditions, the Aiguille du Midi should therefore resume service from today, Thursday 16 March.
