Skiing the Vallée Blanche is definitely a mindblowing experience for everyone who dares to do so.
20km long with a vertical descent of 2700m, the famous off-piste ski in Chamonix offers stunning views and a real sense of wilderness.
However, one has to be a bit of a daredevil. Vallée Blanche can be dangerous under bad weather condition.
As a consequence, the maintenance works for the valley are complex and done on a daily basis during the winter season.
The small crew that manages the Aiguille du Midi Ridge is accustomed to working under severe conditions.
A few days earlier, the ice tunnel which provides access to the ridge was completely obstructed by snow, so the crew had to release the tunnel by piercing the entrance with shovels, in the blue light of the ice.
During days when the entrance is clear, the team is able to focus on the Z. The wide track will facilitate the access for all skiers and snowboarders on the Vallée Blanche.
The purpose is to complete the Z track before the February holidays, so tourists can easily descent the Aiguille du Midi.
Reminder! The Vallée Blanche is not a controlled piste, but a high mountain route which is filled with crevasses and the risk of avalanches is high most of the times.
It can be a risky route even for experienced skiers, so it is highly recommended to hire a professional high mountain guide.
