On the 25th of February 2019, the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix organized a ski touring event in the Planards.
More than a hundred people participated in what was an evening full of pleasant surprises.
Mont-Blanc base camp, a ski touring event organized by the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix, took place this Monday, the 25th of February.
The night included many engaging sports activities & workshops and aimed at increasing the appeal of ski touring.
Mont-Blanc base camp was envisioned by Yves Ancrenaz and his friend Tony Sbalbi of the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix and it is part of a series of activities designed to revive mountain sports events in the Chamonix valley.
Other such events are "Chamonix in Red", "Mont-Blanc ski challenge" and "Cham at the top".
A hundred people participated in the first edition of Mont-Blanc base camp, which took place at the Planards.
They got the opportunity to try equipment, benefit from advice and participate in a variety of practical free activities, which were meant to raise interest and knowledge in ski touring.
Therefore, the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix offered an introductory workshop on ski touring. Logically, mountain safety was also a key topic to elaborate on and there was a DVA activity supervised by the Chamoniarde (Society for Prevention and Relief).
Then, there was a workshop held by Vivian Bruchez for those who wanted to learn more about steep skiing.
And for the more advanced skiers, Valentine Fabre held a workshop on ski mountaineering, teaching participants many tricks in order to improve their times and overall performance.
In addition, many famous athletes participated in the Mont-Blanc base camp, such as champion Guillermo Fayed and Chamonix skier, Camille Verrier.
Afterwards, Paul Bonhomme welcomed the participants to the Planards restaurant, and the evening ended in good food and screenings of educational films.
